The 2010 E Trade Baby commercial from superbowl
Woah… Did E-trade just step up their commercials to not one, not two, but three babies in one episode! Who doesn’t enjoy looking at these adorable “grown-up” babies talking about stocks and all of the fun stuff that comes a long with it? Except for this one, they rarely talk about why you should be a member of the E-trade community. In this situation, there is a guy and a girl talking through I-chat on their computers. The girl is a little upset because the guy hasn’t been spending enough time with her and he is always busy. Typical relationship fight, right? The guy baby explains that its only because he has been so into his E-mobile application that he has been out of the loop for a while. After some dialogue back and forth the girl finally calls out the man saying, “You haven’t been hanging out with that Milk-oholic ex-girl friend ex of yours have you?” Wait… this is getting real weird. How are two babies communicating through I-chat first of all and second of all using the word “Milk-oholic” for babies is pretty clever. Finally at the end of the commercial the guy’s ex girlfriend pops out, furious about what was just said and then the screen cuts off. ….One of the most out of control commercial’s I’ve seen in a while.
What’s the point of these commercials? E-trade knows how to get the attention of the American culture. Over its 28-year span, the company has grown into revenue of 2.22 billion, over 3,000 employees, and has a headquarters in the heart of New York City. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a pretty successful company to me. The baby theme in their advertisements is a huge part of the success. More and more viewers are drawn in and buy into the marketing scheme. The only question is what will be next? I think it’s time to move on and start seeing some baby acrobatics.
