Quiznos and Kittens. Wait, Kittens?

Ok, I agree kittens are cute. But past that I mean is putting kittens in your commercial actually going to sell a sub. I tried and tried, however I failed to see a correlation between a Kitten and a Sub. To me this commercial does the opposite of what is intended, it makes me not want to the sub. I could barely stand listening to that song once. 5-4-3,5-4-3,5-4-3…all right, all right, I GET IT. As gladly as I wouldn’t like to say I understand what the deal is, I can’t even understand what the kittens are actually saying. Also, the guy that created this commercial really needs to adapt to modern technology those kittens are NOT realistic. It looks at if like five minutes before the commercial went on air they were like, damn, it looks dull lets add some kittens. I would like to bring up another point, Why are the kittens inside the sub? I never knew that cat meet was an option when at Quiznos. What kind of advertisement campaign puts kittens in their product, I know that would not make me to eat it.
I guess I have a different train of thought than most American. This commercial when aired had top ratings. This shows a lot about out culture today. Simple things easily memorize us as Americans. I don’t know about you but I almost went death when I heard that song, with the all so creative lyrics. I’d like to end this blog with saying even though the commercial was effective, then kittens are very irrelevant.

Girls are doing it with Girls...

This commercial is one of kind. I mean if you want to get the attention of an adolescent teen this is definitely the way to do it. Honestly, sex appeal and Modern Warfare 2 have nothing in common. What’s really unusual is that they makers decided to use an old man to bring in an audience. Wouldn’t it have been a better idea to put an attractive female?? Or is that just me? This commercial isn’t even really an advertisement for the game, only for a few seconds does it relate to Modern Warfare. For most of the commercial they are just making it very awkward for kids watching this with their parents. This commercial is a prime example of how easily distracted American are today. Just because the game can somehow be related to sex, then it is a must buy. Could the creator of this commercial be anymore immature? The old man says “girls are doing it with other girls”. Obviously, there is a better way to get the point across that girls play the video game, but no they made it as perverted as possible. It’s amazing how a simple commercial can be a huge hit and actually make the game become even more popular.

Shut up Piggy!

Shut up Piggy!
The piggy commercial from Geico has been getting a lot of attention lately. How can’t it, I mean seriously a pig yelling incessantly and hysterically like a little kid holding an air wheel as a car zips past a neighborhood. How is that supposed to promote its car insurance? A piggy yelling “wee wee wee” as his air wheel spins is not relevant in any way to car insurance so why did Geico make this commercial? I think Geico believes they are famous enough that just having an attention grabbing ad would be enough to increase their number of customers. Every time I watch it or goes on television it scares the hell out of me because it’s all quiet until the piggy starts yelling his obnoxiously loud “wee’s”. I was just informed that they even named this piggy Maxwell. What is this? This says a lot about how Americans value advertisements that have no point what so ever other than to give them a good laugh. It seems the more stupid and pointless an ad is the more attention it manages to grab. The pig even has a home and seems to be a neighbor of the woman driving the car because the woman says: "you’re home” when they stop by a house. People seriously like this commercial very much as indicated by YouTube’s 19,214likes and only 474 dislikes. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next thing Geico does for their commercials is have screaming goldfish or something to better promote their car insurance.

Super Bowl Ad (99?) E*Trade - "Wasted $2 Million Bucks"

$ 2 Million Buck
A monkey and two old men in a garage, really is this the best E*TRADE could come up with? Not a word is said in the whole commercial we just hear static. There is a monkey dancing on a trash can and two old men clapping who look as if they might be mentally handicapped. How is this going to convince people they need to use E*TRADE’s product? The only part in the whole video that directs my attention toward money in general is the ending quote “Well, we just wasted $2 million bucks.” “What are you doing with your money?” It’s amazing that anyone even would give this marketing idea a second look without firing the person who put in on their desk.
I guess this says a lot about American Culture and what draws people’s attention. I don’t see how anyone could find a company that uses monkey’s in their commercials as a safe place to put their money. That might give people the assumption that they are letting monkeys handle our money and from a business standpoint that is not a good first impression. It sure does make me wonder who the head of their marketing operations is. I guess you could call this their unconventional marketing methods. Everything is relevant to the time period though so while this would never have been acceptable back in the 60’s and 70’s in the 21st century anything is possible.

So Easy a Caveman Can Do It (or should I say a ninty year old)

"So Easy a Caveman Can Do It (or should I say a ninty year old)"
Alright so what is Geico trying to accomplish now with a caveman in the airport? This caveman has his flight ticket and seems to be flying a plane soon which is strange since cavemen are not civilized and should be afraid of technology like this. He is also dressed in a contemporary manner wearing a wrist watch and is being transported on a moving walkway. The caveman definitely does not fit in to this modern and sophisticated world. As the caveman is being transported across the airport on the moving walkway he comes across two billboards on the wall to his right. He ignores the first one and the second but after a second the second advertisement catches his attention as it illustrates a caveman wearing animal skin with a club in this right hand in front of a computer screen. The modern caveman starts walking backwards and reads the top of the advertisement which says: “so easy even a caveman can do it.” Apparently the ‘modern’ caveman understood this as he appeared to be insulted by the advertisement which implies that cavemen are cognitively inferior to modern men. First of all this does not make sense because if this is a modern human ,and not a Neanderthal as he appears to be, then he should be as cognitively advanced as any normal human. Another thing I find comical is the background music that sings: “everywhere I go there’s always something to remind me” just as the caveman is scrutinizing the commercial, implying that this caveman came from the past in a time machine or was perhaps preserved in a frozen block of ice ten meters below the snow in the Alps of Switzerland for 15,000 years. Anyways, although the commercial misses its point because cavemen are as cognitively as intelligent as modern humans it manages to attract attention by amusing its viewers but I think the point it is trying to make is that anyone even a 90 year old who has no experience, what so ever, or is terrified by computers can get a free online quote from Geico and perhaps save you 15 percent or more on car insurance. Again Geico succeeds in getting more attention, and adding to their customers, by marketing outlandish commercials involving cavemen.

NEW E*TRADE Baby First Class

E-Trade for the past couple of years has been known to create some of the most ridiculous commercials to television. The thing is, they work. The financial company has been one of the most powerful, producing revenue of about $2.22 Billion. The business is an online discount stock brokerage service for personally directed use. Investors can even buy or sell stocks, bonds, options, and mutual funds through the “E-Trade Mobile Pro” application. Basically, this has been one of the most productive smart phone applications on the market compared to the other time wasters that many invest their money in. E-Trade advertises their company in an interesting yet eye-catching way that gets the attention of any potential buyers.
In this commercial, the “E-trade baby” is sitting in first class in what looks like a private jet talking about the pros of the company. The featured individual has the look of the young, adorable, chubby baby but somehow talks like a grown adult who knows the in’s and out’s of the stock market. Viewers are so drawn into the cute baby talking about the stock he bought the other night through his E-Trade Mobile Pro phone application and anything else the company may entail. But seriously, how can a baby talk about Economics? This has no relevance to anything at all. E-Trade has recently been known to throw some pretty “out of there” commercials but they work. They have a knack for tying their advertisements into different parts of American culture. 1- who doesn’t enjoy seeing a cute baby? 2- the majority of American culture is just weird. And do weird things, so obviously these commercials will be entertainment for all of those weird Americans out there. This E-Trade baby keeps getting the company results while the creative, out of the box commercials keep on coming.

The 2010 E Trade Baby commercial from superbowl

Woah… Did E-trade just step up their commercials to not one, not two, but three babies in one episode! Who doesn’t enjoy looking at these adorable “grown-up” babies talking about stocks and all of the fun stuff that comes a long with it? Except for this one, they rarely talk about why you should be a member of the E-trade community. In this situation, there is a guy and a girl talking through I-chat on their computers. The girl is a little upset because the guy hasn’t been spending enough time with her and he is always busy. Typical relationship fight, right? The guy baby explains that its only because he has been so into his E-mobile application that he has been out of the loop for a while. After some dialogue back and forth the girl finally calls out the man saying, “You haven’t been hanging out with that Milk-oholic ex-girl friend ex of yours have you?” Wait… this is getting real weird. How are two babies communicating through I-chat first of all and second of all using the word “Milk-oholic” for babies is pretty clever. Finally at the end of the commercial the guy’s ex girlfriend pops out, furious about what was just said and then the screen cuts off. ….One of the most out of control commercial’s I’ve seen in a while.
What’s the point of these commercials? E-trade knows how to get the attention of the American culture. Over its 28-year span, the company has grown into revenue of 2.22 billion, over 3,000 employees, and has a headquarters in the heart of New York City. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a pretty successful company to me. The baby theme in their advertisements is a huge part of the success. More and more viewers are drawn in and buy into the marketing scheme. The only question is what will be next? I think it’s time to move on and start seeing some baby acrobatics.
